This place is great, been going there for many years. The goat is delicious every single time and it’s not expensive for what you get. Very fast, not much waiting time. Love that it’s a local family business with the same lovely ladies behind the counter. Will order more often. :-).
Normally I love Island Foods food, service leaves something to be desired. The Chana Roti is crave-able for sure. My husband just went completely out of his way to go to Island Foods to pick up lunch, it's Friday Sept 3 before the long weekend, 12:00 pm, online says they are open today until 8 pm, only to find that the store was closed. Pretty brutal, it's a Friday at lunch time, yeah everyone needs a vacation, I get it (as I sit at my desk working), but then it should be posted online so people who are working don't waste their time. Needless to say, will not be going back.
In 2002 I lived near King and Dufferin, and I didn’t have a full kitchen. I ate the exact same meal at Island Foods constantly- sometimes 7 days a week. Boneless chicken dinner with an extra of Channa and spinach, and a plain roti with chicken gravy. That location eventually closed. But I always considered it the very best Roti spot in town. Much to my surprise, I was working in the East end and discovered that they have a Don Mills location. I just finished eating my original order (they were out of spinach so I tried the eggplant) and believe it or not, nearly 20 years later, it tastes exactly the same. It’s the same family, and they definitely have preserved the original recipes. Amazing!!!
